Eevee

A German Shepherd named Eevee

Eevee came to Mikaela’s Mutt Motel on June 8th, 2022, a German Shepherd with a history of aggression. We believed we could rehabilitate her, just as we had with many other dogs.

After months of training, medication, and patience, we found her a seemingly perfect home. Unfortunately, she relapsed, displaying dangerous behavior that put her new family and their community at risk. With several bites already on her record, she overpowered the adopter and barricaded a family in their home until the police responded.

We brought Eevee back and continued our efforts, exploring every possible avenue for improvement. We consulted with veterinary behaviorists, tried various medications, and implemented different training techniques. Despite our best intentions, Eevee remained unpredictable and unsafe.

She spent her days “whale-eyed” with extreme anxiety and reactivity. She was not afraid to overpower people or objects. The heartbreaking decision to compassionately euthanize Eevee was not taken lightly. It was a difficult and emotional choice, but ultimately, we believe it was the most humane and responsible course of action.

Compassionate euthanasia is a sensitive topic, often met with misunderstanding and judgment. It’s a decision made out of love and a deep sense of responsibility, not a reflection of failure. We must acknowledge that some dogs, despite our best efforts, cannot be rehabilitated.

We believe in radical transparency. We’ll share both successes and challenges. Our safety and the safety of our Mutts and adopters will always be paramount. Eevee’s mind, body & soul are truly at peace now and whatever conflicted her has been washed away. Run free, Eevee.
