Luna
We are heartbroken to share the tragic story of Luna, a sweet soul who crossed the Rainbow Bridge shortly after being rescued. What we were led to believe was a routine intake quickly became a horrifying discovery of severe neglect and abuse.
Upon her arrival, it was clear the photos we’d been given were very old. Luna was in critical condition. Her fur was stained and burned from urine, and she had multiple deep, open wounds—one so severe that bone and muscle were exposed. She was also dangerously emaciated.
Our veterinary team determined that her condition was irreversible. The only compassionate choice was to give her a final, peaceful few hours filled with love, kindness, and all the treats she could ever want— cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, and donuts. With a pain injection administered, she was finally able to rest comfortably and cross the Rainbow Bridge.
A post-mortem exam revealed the true extent of her suffering: countless broken bones, all a result of untreated blunt force trauma. Luna’s horrific injuries were not congenital; they were inflicted. We have since contacted Montgomery County Animal Care and Control, and we desperately hope justice will be served for this innocent soul.
Luna’s story is a devastating reminder of the cruelty that exists, but it also strengthens our resolve. We will continue to fight for the voiceless and provide a safe haven for animals in need. Your support is more vital than ever as we work to prevent such horrors and honor Luna’s memory.
